Stay Secure on the Go
Why It Matters?
Whether you’re traveling for business or vacation, your digital security shouldn’t take a break. From public Wi-Fi to lost devices, travel introduces unique risks that can be avoided with a bit of preparation.
Use this checklist to protect your data and stay private wherever you go.
Before You Leave – Prepare Your Devices
📦 Back Up Your Data
- Make a full backup of your phone, laptop, and important files
- Store it securely offline or in an encrypted cloud service
🔐 Lock Down Devices
- Set a strong password/PIN and enable biometric lock
- Turn on full disk encryption (FileVault, BitLocker, Android/iOS built-in)
- Enable remote wipe/Find My Device tools
📱 Minimize What You Bring
- Take only essential devices
- Remove sensitive data, photos, or documents you don’t need
- Log out of unnecessary accounts
🧳 Install Security Tools
- Use a VPN (e.g., ProtonVPN, IVPN, Mullvad)
- Enable 2FA for all major accounts
- Set up travel profiles (separate browser, user account, or OS if needed)
While Traveling – Stay Vigilant
📶 Be Careful with Public Wi-Fi
- Avoid banking or accessing sensitive data
- Use your mobile data when possible
- If you must use public Wi-Fi, turn on your VPN immediately
🔌 Charge Safely
- Avoid “juice jacking” by using your own charger and power adapter
- Do not use public USB ports — use a USB data blocker if needed
🧭 Be Mindful of Surveillance & Theft
- Don’t leave devices unattended in hotel rooms or cafes
- Be cautious when logging in around cameras or strangers
- Use privacy screens in crowded spaces (airports, trains, etc.)
After You Return – Check for Issues
🧾 Audit Account Activity
- Review sign-in logs (Google, Apple, email, bank accounts)
- Log out of devices you no longer need access to
- Change passwords for sensitive accounts if you noticed suspicious activity
📥 Restore and Secure
- Move travel files back to your main system
- Re-enable services or apps you paused during travel
